From August 24 to October 7, 2018, Museum Jan van der Togt presented the exhibition "Frans & Marja de Boer Lichtveld - A sculpture of 45 years of collaboration." For the first time, there was an extensive retrospective exhibition dedicated to this artist duo from Amstelveen. The more than 80 works on display, including sculptures, gouaches, and reliefs, turned the exhibition into a journey through time. From collages and kinetic objects in the 1960s and 1970s, through sleek stainless steel sculptures in the 1980s, to colorful sculptures in public spaces from the 1990s to the 21st century.

Frans (1942 - 2016) and Marja (1941) de Boer Lichtveld initially worked as individual artists. At the same time, they studied at the Institute for Applied Art Education, now known as the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Not long after, Frans and Marja moved into a former school in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, where they shared a studio. In 1970, they took a step further: they formed an artist duo and from then on worked together on the same projects.

In more than 45 years, Frans and Marja completed an unprecedented number of commissions and independent works. Their works are represented in numerous museum and corporate collections. For this exhibition, Museum Jan van der Togt received loans from, among others, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum van Bommel van Dam, and the BPD Art Collection.

Publication The publication "Frans and Marja de Boer Lichtveld - An image of 45 years of collaboration" was published to accompany the exhibition. The book takes the viewer on a tour of the long series of sculptures in public spaces. Piet Augustijn and Lloyd W. Benjamin III describe the dozens of projects in a particularly lively manner. More than 240 photographs, mainly in color, complete the picture. Sponsor The exhibition was made possible in part by the municipality of Amstelveen. With thanks to Volvo Bangarage.
