Museum House - Jan Verschoor

Jan Verschoor, artist and advisor during the museum's founding, has lived at Dorpsstraat 44 in Amstelveen since 1962. In 1990, the Jan van der Togt Museum (now Museum JAN) was built adjacent to his home. In the personal atmosphere of the house, you can discover Jan Verschoor's broad and still growing oeuvre.

The house is regularly open and accessible via the museum. Jan will be happy to tell you how his life is intertwined with the museum and art. For more information, visit janverschoor.nl.

Now showing: Stef Kreymborg

Stef Kreymborg (1953) will be exhibiting at the Museumhuis from May 21 to July 4. The artist, who grew up in Amstelveen, is celebrating her 50th anniversary as an artist with an intimate exhibition at the Museumhuis. She has been collecting and organizing for as long as she can remember. Kreymborg trained as a textile artist but also works with paper, cardboard, linoleum, horsehair, leaves, and twigs. “Everything is usable, as long as it’s flexible.” The techniques she employs can often be traced back to textile methods: Kreymborg sews, folds, weaves, knots, or braids.

Two series of works are on display at the Museumhuis. For the Soft Sculptures, she sewed together cut strands of thread to create whimsical three-dimensional forms. Also on display is the Takkenwerk series, in which leaf stalks from the tree of death’s bones, tied together with thread, curve into three-dimensional structures.
