Lecture: The World of Goya—A Timeless Mirror of the Soul
From magnificent court portraits to pitch-black madness: who was Francisco de Goya really?
The Spanish master Francisco de Goya (1746–1828) was an artist of extremes. He painted the splendor and grandeur of the royal court, but just as mercilessly exposed the dark side of the human soul. His mysterious, jet-black etchings,“Los Disparates” (The Follies), broke with all the conventions of his time and remain as relevant today as ever.
During this lecture, art historian Krzysztof Dobrowolski-Onclin brings the world of this revolutionary to life and provides an overview of Goya’s work. You’ll be drawn into the story behind Goya’s iconic prints and discover how his raw social criticism served as the direct inspiration for Lita Cabellut’s monumental, contemporary canvases.
Krzysztof Dobrowolski-Onclin graduated with honors in art history and French literature and studied at the universities of Amsterdam, Paris, and Kraków. Since 2006, he has been teaching courses and giving lectures on art history without limiting himself to a specific specialty or subject. He volunteered at COC Amsterdam for 26 years and was appointed a Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2019.
The lecture provides further insight into the exhibition Lita Cabellut x Goya – The Follies at Museum JAN.
